Made-to-measure aluminium bi-fold doors

Bi-fold doors are made of hinged panels that fold and stack to one or both sides, so a wide opening can be cleared almost completely. They’re the most popular way to open a kitchen, dining room or extension on to the garden. This configurator builds a bespoke aluminium bi-fold to your exact overall frame size, from 2 to 7 panels.

Sizes and panel options

Overall width can be from 1,200 mm to 7,000 mm and height from 1,800 mm to 2,400 mm. Each panel (leaf) must be between 500 mm and 1,000 mm wide, so the configurator checks your width against the panel count and tells you if you need more or fewer panels. As a rough guide, divide your width by the number of panels: a 3,000 mm door works as 3 panels of 1,000 mm or 4 of 750 mm. See bi-fold door sizes explained for worked examples.

How to measure

Measure the structural opening (brick to brick, and from the finished floor level to the underside of the lintel) at three points across and three points down, and use the smallest figures. The door frame needs to be slightly smaller than the opening so it can be packed, fixed and sealed. Your installer will tell you the fitting tolerance they want to allow. Our step-by-step measuring guide explains it with a diagram. The sizes you enter here are overall frame sizes in millimetres.

Opening, colours, glass and thresholds

Choose whether the doors open out or in, and whether the panels stack to the left, right or split to both sides. Frame colours are Anthracite grey (RAL 7016), White (RAL 9016) and Black (RAL 9005), plus dual colour (white inside, grey outside) and bespoke RAL colours. Glazing is double glazed clear (Low-E, argon) as standard, with self-cleaning, solar control, triple glazed and obscure (privacy) options. Thresholds are standard rebated, low (flush/level) or ultra-low weathered with drainage. A low threshold gives a near-level step between inside and out, but needs careful planning of drainage and floor levels with your builder.

Hardware included

Every door comes with standard hardware, including a lever handle and an Ultion high-security cylinder lock.

Traffic door

Bi-folds can include a traffic door, which is a single panel that opens on its own like a normal door, so you can step in and out every day without folding back the whole set. If the configurator doesn’t capture the arrangement you want, note your preferred traffic door position in the order notes.

Supply only: what that means

Glazing Counter supplies products for your own builder or installer to fit. We don’t survey or install. That keeps the price down and lets you use a fitter you trust, but it also means the sizes you order are your responsibility. Have your installer confirm the structural opening before you order, especially for made-to-measure products, which can’t be returned unless faulty (see returns).

Delivery

We deliver to UK mainland addresses, quoted separately by postcode. Delivery is to the kerbside or nearest accessible ground-floor point, and someone aged 18 or over needs to be there to check the goods. Large glazed frames are heavy, so have help on hand to unload. Please inspect everything and report any damage within 48 hours, before installation.

How ordering works

There is no online payment. Add your configured item to the basket and send an order request. We check every size and option, then email you an order confirmation and an invoice that includes delivery to your postcode. You pay by bank transfer, and manufacture is booked once payment has cleared. Read more on our delivery page and in our terms.

Frequently asked questions

How many panels do I need?

It depends on the width. Each panel must be 500–1,000 mm wide, so divide your overall width by the panel count. The configurator will warn you if a combination is outside that range.

What handle and lock come with the door?

Doors come with standard hardware, including a lever handle and an Ultion high-security cylinder lock.

Do bi-folds open in or out?

You can choose either. Opening out means the stacked panels sit outside and don’t take up room space. Opening in can suit balconies or tight patios. Ask your installer which suits your opening.

Is the price final?

Listed configurations are firm prices including VAT. Other sizes and upgrades are estimates, and we confirm the final price and delivery on your invoice before anything is made.

Can you fit the doors?

No. We supply only, for your own builder or installer to fit.

Can I have a traffic door?

Yes. Our bi-folds can include a traffic door for everyday access. If the configurator doesn’t capture the arrangement you want, add your preference in the order notes.
